10 Staycation Ideas to try with your family this year
While I am still smiling about my mini staycation its not just parents who are dreaming of vacations and travel. Lots of families are unable to go on their regular winter vacations this year. So we are getting extra creative with finding ways to have some fun at home with the kids.
The girls are home from school this week, so I have come up with this list of 10 fun things to do at home with your kids.
1. Bake a special treat together.
2. Have a spa day complete with mani/pedi’s facials, and snacks.
3. Get dressed up for a fancy brunch.
4. Have a “night at the movies” with admission tickets and a concession.
5. Host a family Olympics.
6. Decide a country to “visit” — hang their flag, listen to cultural music, and eat traditional food.
7. Go on an adventure walk together and see what things you find/collect.
8. Have a “campfire” in your living room — sing songs, eat s’mores, and tell campfire stories.
9. Host a board game night!
10. Have a living room sleepover.
One of our favourite things to do is bake with my girls. This donut recipe is perfect— I mean is there anything better than a warm glazed donut?! These donuts are dipped in a thick, decadent vanilla glaze and topped with sprinkles. The glaze is very easy, just powdered sugar, some milk, and a touch of vanilla. You can check out my insta for the perfect glazing technique here.
Ultimate Baked Donut With Vanilla Glaze
2 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter , melted
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup milk
1/2 cup icing sugar
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees C (350 degrees F).
Spray a donut pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, butter, oil and vanilla extract.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir together until no flour bits remain and all the ingredients are well combined. Try not to over-mix the batter.
Spoon the batter into the donut cavities or use a large ziplock bag. Cut a corner off the bottom of the bag and pipe the batter into each donut cavity, filling 3 ∕ 4 of the way full.
Place the pan in the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and transfer the donuts onto a wire rack until cool enough to handle but still warm.
MAKE THE GLAZE.
In a medium bowl whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and salt.
Add 1 tablespoon of milk, and whisk to combine. If the glaze is too thick, add additional milk, 1/2 teaspoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
Add food coloring if you wish.
ASSEMBLE
Dip the warm donuts in the vanilla glaze, return to the wire rack, and immediately top with sprinkles. Allow glaze to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes before stacking or serving.
Enjoy these delicious vanilla glazed baked donuts!
