yes, you can have both
Yes, you can have both.
When I first went into healthcare I truly loved the idea of 12 hour shifts. Until I started a family and realized I didn’t get to do the last part of this video…bedtime. I quickly realized I would be sneaking in after they went to bed for a quick kiss, and then get things ready to do it all over again. So, I switched to 8 hour shifts. And guess what? I would often have to pack school lunches, and drop off a cooler at daycare so we could run to our evening activities. And if we didn’t have activities, we would get home, have supper and go to bed.
I didn’t like missing out on the things. I wanted to have some extra flexibility in my life, without losing that income.
So I tried something new. Did something scary. And I’ve never looked back.
This is the time of year where many people are picking up extra shifts to pay for Christmas presents, or save for that winter vacation to escape the bitter cold. And while I am grateful to have that as an option, I am even more grateful that the majority of my time is now able to be spent at hoe with my kids…taking them to activities…and tucking them into bed at night.
Yes, I still work, and I’m grateful to have found a unit I love with colleagues I love and work that I love. But I’m so grateful it’s on a schedule that works around my family. And the rest of my work time is from home, on a schedule that again works for my family and I.
Send me an email if you are interested in the idea of more time flexibility. I’ll personally reply so we can chat a little more about options for you.
