Are you taking time for you?

When I had my first baby, I rarely got ready for the day. I remember finding the time to go to the bathroom AND shower feeling near impossible, so most days I brushed my teeth (usually by around noon) and lived in a top knot and yoga pants.

β€Œ

I also remember feeling less like myself.

β€Œ

I was overtired.

I had a colicky baby who only slept if we walked and rocked her. Day and night.

I was so unsure of myself and what I was doing taking care of the precious baby girl in my arms.

β€Œ

But once a week, I got ready. I put on clothes other than my yoga pants, and did my hair and makeup, and it felt GOOD. We went to church, came home, and I promptly switched back into my β€œmom uniform” of yoga pants and a comfy shirt.

β€Œ

Something switched after having my 4th child. I don’t know if it was because we knew we were done having kids, or because I had found a way to make some additional income so we had a bit more wiggle room in the budget, or because I had found a way to manage my time better (with the help of some older kids who could entertain their siblings while I took a quick shower). But I found that taking 10 minutes for me in the morning changed my whole day.

β€Œ

By the simple act of getting dressed, and doing my hair and makeup, I had more energy, was more present with my kids, and felt more confident. And it only took 10 minutes. Why did it take so long to make this switch? I have no idea. But I’ll tell you what; those 10 minutes each day continue to make a big difference.

β€Œ

What about you? Where are you at:

❀️ I find a way to take some time for me most days/everyday.

πŸ€ͺ Time for me? What’s that?
